Pics from Shirley’s Garden.

Last year, with the cold crumby spring, Shirley never bothered starting her garden. With the early warm beautiful spring and above normal temps this summer, her garden flourished. We had plenty of rain that would last a day or two, then the sun was out for four or more days.  It was a hot hot humid summer; one we won’t forgot!  Come to think of it, we kinda forgot the cold crumby rainy spring/summer of  ’09!  I guess in some ways it’s a blessing that we have short memories!  In fact, and I speak from experience, the older you get, the shorter the memory!  OK, what was I saying…

Oh… this year she planted the usual garden variety vegetables; carrots, peas, beans, corn, tomatoes, etc… even watermelon.  Her flowers did well; included sunflowers for the first time.  As a kid, I was always fascinated by them and still enjoy the tall stalks that dwarf all other plants; kinda like a fantasy garden from the story books.

“Eb”, the scarecrow(?), in the last pic, seems quite pleased with the garden; almost as if it was his; likes to think its his; thinks he does most of the work!!  This isn’t Green Acres, Eb!  Shirley’s there somewhere… keeping an eye on him!  See Her?!
