KELLY LAKE SPORTSMAN’S CLUB
Meeting Minutes
January 26th, 2012 Viz’s Kelly Lake Bar

Meeting called to order by President, Gary Vizelka with 23 members present.
Secretary’s report, motion made by Shirley Murphy & Jeremiah Vizelka to
approve the minutes of the last meeting as printed. Treasurer’s report was
given by Jamie Harvey. Motion made by Bob Jandt & Dan Campbell to approve
the report as read.

First item of discussion was our Ice Fishing Derby. Had great attendance &
our financial report reflected on that. We feel the Kubota was the key to
our success. Suggestion to post our Web site at the Derby and plan to have
it present on all tickets & posters in the future, also possible on our
signs coming into Kelly Lake. The Board will have further discussion on
this issue. Another member suggested to have to have our Grand prize on the
Web site with ticket purchase thru Pay Pal. Someone reported our lit signs
going into Kelly Lake aren’t working, Earl Macha volunteered to check on
them, possibly needing batteries. The Club would like to THANK everyone who
helped in any way with our great Ice Fishing Derby. You should be proud at
the success. In appreciation for all your hard work a party at Viz’s will
be held Jan. 29th from 2pm-5pm. Hope all can attend

Chicken, Tips & Toys, March 26th at Romy’s, mark your calendars for a fun
filled evening. Need to order tickets & posters, get invitations addressed
& ready to send. Feb. 8th, 5:30pm board meeting at Viz’s, committees will
be formed & anyone wishing to volunteer come to the meeting and see Dan
Campbell.

Next meeting, Udder Bar, we’ll hold our annual elections. Positions
available will be Vice President, Arlyn Libal & Secretary, Janet Greason for
2 yr. terms. Also board members, Merrilee Libal & Mark Szczepanski, 3 yr.
terms. Anyone like to help us with these positions come to our next meeting
and get involved.

Earl Macha reported on our pheasant program this year. Tags were made out
to put on hunters windshields so landowners knew who was hunting on their
land. Seventeen hunters signed up at the Kwik Stop, 105 birds were seen, 35
were harvested, a total of 134 hrs. spent hunting. There’s doubt if this
program is really paying out. The board will have further discussion on
this program. Other options mentioned were going to a hunting club to hunt
pheasants.

Member asked if we were going to donate anything to the Suring Sportsman’s
Club Banquet? After some discussion, Bob Jandt & Earl Macha made a motion
to donate a shot gun for their banquet.

Jamie Harvey & Judy Jandt made a motion to donate a gun to the Oconto County
Sportsman’s Alliance Banquet, Feb. 7th at Romy’s

Also Arlyn Libal & Jerimiah Vizelka made a motion to get $100.00 fishing
bucket from Bob Whites Bait & Tackle to donate to the Fennigan Lake
Sportsman’s Club Ice Fishing Derby, Feb. 25th. Jerimiah volunteered to put
that bucket together.

Mike Wirz explained the budget from 2011 & the upcoming 2012 year. It shows
projected expenses of each event & the actual income. The Club is operating
at a better balance. Thanks Mike for an excellent job, its appreciated.

Our Club is contemplating purchasing property for a Club house, etc. If
anyone has ideas on this issue please give us your thoughts. If anyone has
land for sale in the Kelly Lake area please inform us, we need your help.

Motion Made To Adjourn by Bob Richter & Mike Wirz
Respectfully Submitted,
Janet Greason
Club Secretary

Touching base…

I haven’t posted from Bradenton, FL for awhile; feel guilty. We often think of Kelly Lake and what we would be doing there. Time’s going fast, as we’re busy—always something, never nothing.  For those of you on my Facebook, you’ve been able to follow our adventures down here, especially with my 100-year-old mother.

As many of you are aware, my mother flew down with us after her 100th birthday January 6th, and has been here since January 10th. All’s well and she is enjoying being back in Florida; they had a winter home for 25 years up to 10 years ago.

Although we were worried about how things would go getting Mother here—age and mobility issues—we’re now in a comfortable routine; she eats well and demands doing as much as possible for herself—for lack of a better term, she’s low-maintenance, especially at 100; our worries were much for naught!

Concerns about her falling remains a concern, but she takes getting up on her walker or wheelchair slowly and cautiously—we guarding her every move.  Be that as it may, I’ll share a latest moment here with her at the clubhouse’s potluck last Thursday.  I wrote this (added Pics) for our Pescara Lake Communities newsette, “Tidings”.

Again, if you’d like, and because I find it easier, log on to my facebook for what’s happening; I do post more of Florida and Mom there for you to follow.  Meanwhile, even though there’s not much happening at KL this time of year, send pics and text for kellylake.net.  Oh, Mike Haight from Lee Lake called this AM to say the Westcott Lake Bar burned down!  Man, that bar goes back decades for me; the memories!

Here’s the Pescara Lake “Tidings” article I submitted.  Roger

My mother (Eva Birr) is from Two Rivers, WI (located halfway up the state on L. Michigan).  Over the last several years, she’s had at least three wishes in her “Bucket List”:  1) To live to be one-hundred; 2) to have a big party; and, 3 to return to Florida.  Mom and Dad had a winter home in Donovan’s Park (Clearwater, FL) for 25 years, up until 10 years ago.  Dad passed away in ’85, but mother continued retreating from Wisconsin’s cold winters until 1992 when she deemed it time to stay closer to home, the family and her doctors.

Well, obviously her first wish came true; she turned 100 on January 6th, 2012.  Secondly, with her immediate family’s’ help, we all organized and threw a party at Machute’s Supper Club in Two Rivers; 144 out of 150 invitees showed up on a relatively nice winter’s day, January 8th.  Everyone had a grand time, as many relatives and friends reunited to celebrate.  Thirdly, plans were made and airfare booked, she flew back with us to Pescara Lake Community (Lot 237); there was some difficulty ushering her to the seat; she uses a walker when necessary—mainly her wheelchair.  Mom’s mind is incredibly sharp and alert; evidenced while trying to beat her at 500 rummy!

She truly enjoys being back in Florida.  Last week we visited Donovan’s mobile Park.  Many of her old friends planned for her arrival to celebrate her birthday and relive the old times in the park.  Now back, she had the enjoyment of coming to the January potluck where she was celebrated at being 100—song sung—and introduced to the Pescara Lake Community.  She also was given three 50-50 raffle tickets and was asked to do the honors and draw the winning one from the drum—she didn’t win!!

Shirley and I are especially appreciative, and thank everyone for their efforts to make-mention of Mom’s 100th and welcome her at the potluck.  Mom will be here until April.

Sincerely,
Roger and Shirley Birr

KL Sportsman’s Club Ice Fishing Derby 2012!

Wish we were there!  Maybe not!  Shirley and I are in Florida!  Thanks, Dave Parmentier, for the photo from the ‘Derby”!  Rog

What a Surprise Visit!

I just came back from the pool and was putting some things away when an SUV rolled up at our curb.  A man stepped out, donned a cowboy hat (from the distance he kinda-looked familiar) and started walking my way.  The glasses were a clue, but when he started getting closer, the signature cowboy boots, with that signature cowboy hat had solved the riddle… it was Dennis Race and his lovely wife, Kathy, from the Kelly Lake area; known ‘em for years!

Dennis and Kathy are staying in Newport, FL (about a half-hour south) for three months and thought they’d look us up.  They drove into our Pescara Lake Community 55+ park and headed for the clubhouse for information when Dennis saw me leaving the pool.  He jumped back into his car and they made their way back to our home.

Inviting them in, I introduced them to my mother and we commenced to gab and fill in the details.  It was great that they thought of us and took the time to find us; we had a wonderful visit and plan to hook-up with them during their thee months in Florida!  What a pleasant surprise!  Rog and Shirley

Another Birr-thday Celebration Spent with a Dear KL Friend!

This time it was Shirley’s birthday,Thursday, January 12th; my mother’s was the 6th.  Coincidentally, our long-time Kelly Lake friend, Ruby O’Neil (now living near Del Ray Beach FL on the Atlantic coast) called and said she would be in the Bradenton area, staying at the St. Pete “Trade Winds Sandpiper Resort” (see  http://www.tradewindsresort.com/default.aspx?NCK=PPCBG&gclid=CM6Ezp_Dya0CFUmR7QodpnxFhQ) and wondered where we could hook up.  We had visited and stayed with Ruby and Bill  this last March on our trip to Florida (http://www.kellylake.net)./archives/6421/)—Bill was back home today while Ruby went to a conference with a friend.

Shirley and I thought it would be great to drive up the 45-mile trek to see and celebrate at the Resort; it’s a beautiful drive up and over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge (http://interstate275florida.com/ssb.htm).  We arrived about 6 PM where we met Ruby at the front door.  Hugs were exchanged and we made our way through the TW Sandpiper; the girls had already agreed on one of the different eateries.

After we dined, it had already begun to grow dark, but what we could see was quite lavish and luxury-ish!  We winded around pools, palms, mini-waterways for paddle boats and over mini-bridges to check out the nightlife and find some entertainment.  Our final stop was perfect at “Sharktooth Tavern” to imbibe in some libations, as celebrated Shirley’s birthday and a grand get-together with a great long-time friend!  Roger and Shirley

A coincidentally pleasant surprise call from Ruby led to a fun celebration for the three of us!  Thanks, Ruby!
