southshoreoct08.jpg I got free for a few hours on a Sunday 10 days ago.  Put up storm storm windows and winterized some stuff. I was able to see how low the lake has gone. This is the south shore looking west.

White-breasted nuthatch

nov-9-08a.JPGIt isn’t easy to get close to a nuthatch (they generally fly off with any approach), but this white-breasted nuthatch bounced off our window, dazed as it fell by fallen oak leaves.  When it came to its senses, it flew away!  Roger  (Photo by Shirley Birr at Birr’s Eye View)

Spindrift

my_life_before_kids_5a.JPGlady-aquila.JPGWhen the wind is so strong, it blows the top of the waves in a spray that’s called “spindrift”.  These photos are from my daughter, Rebecca, who crewed on a $4M 98′ Burger Yacht   (Lady Aquila) built in Manitowoc, WI to the Carribean.  Shirley and I were in Manitowoc for the Christening.  The yacht was featured in Boat magazine.  The voyage took 9 months.  There were 3 crew members total, including the Captain.  She would write and send pics and video of her adventure.  She has numerous stories of high seas and peaceful harbors.  They moored in New York to witness the fireworks.  Ended up in Jamaica.

Rebecca had followed in my wake.  As I’ve mentioned, I’ve sailed all the Great Lakes.   She titled the photos “my life before kids”!  She now lives in Peshtigo, WI with her husband, Tye and 3 children, Brenna, Evan and Nathan (a half-hour away from us).

I was looking for a POTD today, and these photos she just sent of her ’95 voyage filled a spot.   Perhaps with 3 kids, she’s reliving those lonely days at sea!

PS  Photos needed!  Roger

photos for site

Roger-

The sunrise photos are great. Can you place one as the background for the site? The current backgroud is nice, but is not the lake.
