Kelly Lake’s Julie and Jeff Levar sponsored the 2009 Blue Herry Cup (Kelly Lake’s answer to the Survivor Show) this last Saturday for family and friends. Julie was MC, while Jeff participated as team member; 4 different teams of 3. I again was one of the judges along with Nick, Greg and Mike. Shirley was Cup photographer.
It was a well-organized event, complete with different colored team t-shirts; lighting the Cup torch; playing the Star Spangled Banner at the convening while Biner fired off rockets.
Events included tubing around the lake (3 in the tube) each with a pitcher of colored water, with the team retaining the most water while bouncing around the lake, winning. A dozen tennis balls were fired high in the air with an 8′ long compressed air cannon. Team had to throw the balls to a midle-man who then attempted to throw them into the water-filled waders of the catcher. It was a timed event. A slingshot was used to fire water ballons over trees to 2 catchers using a single bucket with ropes attached to hold on to. A 50′ wet slide was used for a relay race (I thought I was at a seal show at Sea World!).
Despite the cold, cloudy and crumby weater, we had a ball (although yours truly remained dry as a judge!).
Trophies were handed out to the winning “pink” team (Matt, Jennifer and Josh). Rookie, Jennifer, received the MVP Award. Frank was awarded the infamous “Horses Ass” award; not for his personality, but for trying to cheat a bit. Cutting him some slack, I think it was Jeff’s idea!
Great job, Juli and Jeff and contestants!

Let the challenge begin!

Shirley caught this Great Blue Heron resting or perched getting a bird’s eye view to spot prey in the water here at Birr’s Eye View. Normally we see them slowly creeping up on prey, step by step in the shallows. Roger
Shirley and I stopped in at Kelly Lake’s Mike and Nancy McDonalds in time to catch the last volleys of their family/friend badminton tournament. Bill O’neil, Nancy’s brother, came all the way from Florida! Mike and Nancy are shown far right in group photo. I didn’ know if I saw a good game of badminton or a bad game of goodminton! All had a ball; or was it a birdie!
