Question to Anderson Cooper on CNN:

I was a science/math teacher and just addressed Anderson Cooper with this question:

“Re weather patterns: Have any meteorologist experts been approached to find out if the weather up here in the mid-west will be affected by the oil slicks (to what extent the slicks may become)? I’m wondering if they’ll prevent the water vapor from escaping into the atmosphere, generating rain. Many of the fronts reaching here are a result of the warm, moist gulf air masses bringing rain to our area here in Wisconsin. Thank you. Roger Birr”

AC has been closely covering the Gulf oil spill. I’ve been watching with interest; haven’t heard if the spill continues and creates a large slick, might it have an atmospheric impact as far north as here; we need the rain. If I hear anything, or you have, I’ll post it.

I’m a sailor, and those of you who are also open-water sailors, know that pouring a small amount of oil in the water around the boat during a raging storm, or soaking a bundle of rags and hanging overboard, calms the immediate waves around the boat to some extent; one tactic often tried; not always effective.  How will the ‘slick’ effect storms/hurricanes in the Gulf?  Hmmm.  Roger
