2010 Blue Herry Cup!
To the end the four teams competing for the coveted “Blue Herry Cup(s) were close, and a turn of luck and/or skill kept each team hoping the luck and skill fell their way! Evenly matched, they plied for position with cunning and conniving, using strategies by observing other teams during their event and practicing dry-run maneuvers. The end played out by mastering those strategies and wishing fate would fall in their favor!
Yes, Saturday the 17th’s warm sunny day was perfect for the 10th gathering at Levar’s and Matushka’s on Kelly Lake. The day would be spent with rigorous running, swimming, sliding and sweating by eager players planning on returning home with victory! And, yes, three teams went home empty-handed; not without having a fun-filled festive day with a feast of food and friendship.
Four judges (Paul Green, Greg Levar, Jake and myself) were also challenged more-so this year of the ’10th’. A challenge we had, and having to announce an unpopular decision with some, was difficult, but had to be done. While descent didn’t wane, I (we the judges) tried to make a decision on one event that triggered protest, and the decision remained unanimous). The protest continued, however!
In the end, the “Horses Arse Award” is presented to the member who showed the most controversy during the challenge. At this point, “Max” the dog (Robin and Juli-Levar–Pickering’s) was honored with the “Horses Arse Trophy”! Max, you see, assisted one of the players by fetching one of 10 balls and bringing it to him. Not fair, MAX! You get the ‘trophy’! However, Robin, his master, had to take it home for Max!
With the controversy over, the four teams (orange, green, yellow and tan) gathered about the judges as totals were tallied and the results posted. Orange team won. Kristin Komassa, Jeff Levar and Craig Stangel won with a significant tally! By the way, it was Craig’s first invitation to the Blue Herry Cup Challenge! Kristin won the MVP Award! Congratulations to all teams! It was a blast and an honor to be one of your judges! Roger

Max, left, the Wonder Dog (wonders why he got the “Horses Arse Award”!
Kristin stands on dock readied to catch tennis balls from team mate on raft for the yellow team.
The cannonball challenge: Ten tennis balls shot into the air with an air-powered cannon. The balls are retrieved, then thrown from the raft to catcher on dock. Max fetched one and returned it to his master without the command to do so! Max not seen here. Hmmm. What to do.
The judges caucusing … Hmmm. “What to do”?
Judges, Greg, Paul, Jake and me.
The following were the most exciting photos of the Green Team I could find! They seemed frozen in animation! Strategy was not to leap over the center person holding the pitcher, but gain points by not spilling, though no points for leaping. Hmmmm
And then came the Orange Team; super animated! However, an “equipment malfunction” (not what you’re thinking!) deprived them of extra points.
At this point the tube ruptured and the event was over for the orange team; they were not disqualified; accrued points were added to their total.
I’ll post more pics when I get a little more time! Hang in there… I’m still working on the web cam, Cam1! Dave Fickenscher is working to get Cam2 up-and-running soon!
