Found this article from the pass very interesting, seeing that my family the Ankerson’s were farmers in the Hickory area. The kids from Gillett, Suring and Oconto Falls would go roller skating at the Holiday inn in the mid to late 50’s. We would skate there, then on Saturday nights go to Green Valley,
late went to Shawano also. I graduated from Gillett in 1961. The names and the history in this article are formular to me, as they were told by my grand father and father. Also remember always stopping at the General Store in Hickory for a soda pop and penny candy. We would ride our bikes
from our farms to Kelly Lake to go swimming. Also on Sunday we would attend the baseball games at the park, which is now where there is
a gas station (I think). Always a happening place back then. Thanks for the memories.
