After receiving a message from my niece, MaryKay Strohm Niedermeyer (lives on a lake near Manitowoc), Shirley says she’s seen all three of these species around our own lake! Shirley printed the following out to help identify them. Roger
This from MaryKay:
Our lake got a grant and they have been treating our lake for Eurasion Milfoil and Curly Leaf Pondweed (http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/invasives/aquaticplants/curlyleaf_pondweed.html) .
We found out we have a species that can’t be treated with what they are using. I would hope Ken Darby educates those that live on the lake so you can help with eradication. Are you also educated on garlic mustard (http://www.ipm.msu.edu/garlicmustard.htm)?
I have been spraying for years and it is taking over our woods anyway. The seeds will lay in the ground for up to 7 years. If you catch it early, you can eradicate it!
Be aware of this: http://www.michigan.gov/
This is flowered right now so if you see it, use vegetation killer to get rid of it!!!! It is really bad stuff ( http://www.michigan.gov/documents/dnr/knotweed_BCP_372280_7.pdf).
Thanks, MaryKay, for your input and concern!
