…but they don’t have to be a minimum of 14″ this year!
According to Kelly Lake Sportsman’s Club President, Arlyn Libal, of whom I confirmed this today, the DNR has approved the taking of bass under 14″; reason being they want to curb the numbers of bass which consume other fish species in the lake.
Personally, I’ve released a number of bass under 14″; some really nice 12-13″. And also personally, I think the smaller bass are much tastier!
It’s always controversial how and why things are regulated, often the concern being the best way to manage any given concern.
As for me, I again bought my license—though I admit I’m not an avid fisherman; just find it relaxing—but am enthusiastic about the fact I can keep some of those really nice bass that weren’t quite big enough!
Be that as it may, I also just catch and release. Roger
