If memory serves, in 1980 the Oconto Times Herald carried a report of loud noises and a UFO sighting. While flying over the lake yesterday, I noticed something out of the ordinary that reminded me of that report. Photos and video revealed two perfectly round ice circle formations. My first thought is that the ice disks were created by snowmobile or ATV as a race track, but unless I’m missing something here, a perfectly round track seems unlikely.
There is little evidence of any vehicular excursion in or out of the area. Nobody ice fishing nearby, just two oddly perfect lonely circles in the ice resembling a crop circle. Likely a trick of the thaw / freeze cycle or for the more imaginative, the entrance and exit of an underwater UFO base at Kelly Lake. 😀 Very strange indeed… but there’s more…
…at about 5pm, the West Camera picked up a weird white spot in the sky. It wasn’t there long, but I managed to grab a screen print. The white light appears directly above the general area of the two large circles. I was at home at the time. Another drone perhaps? or maybe just otherworldly visitors attracted to the famous ice fishing derby and great raffle prizes. 😀 Work that into your next late night camp fire story. It looks like a similar formation was discovered on the Presumpscot River in Westbrook, Maine. Here is the link to the story and possible explanation, no aliens…by they were suspect by some. READ the CBS News ice disk article.
Here is a video of an ice disk forming on a river in Minnesota.
Date: April 9,1980
Location: Kelly Lake
Details of Incident:
Wednesday at 8:30 p.m., everyone at Kelly Lake received a scare. A terrific roar out of the northwest, blasting our eardrums and feeling like it was right on top of us. The Turners 2 1/2 year old grandson, Peter said “That noise scared my body”, he must have meant he was scared all over, like we were! The people on the west shore got a good side view of it and said it was cigar shape with large bright windows and apparently no wings. Those on the east shore saw it climb fast to the southwest. Everyone who was home at this time heard or saw it and some reported it to the UFO data reporting center. Maybe we’ll hear more about it!
Keep your eyes on the sky!
