This “Special Moment” photo sent by my cousin, Peggy Ostrenga Winkler, of her husband, grandpa Dave, using his fishing prowess to teach his grandson the art of the angler! And a fine job he’s done!
Peggy’s family, the Ostrengas, have had a resort on the west side of Kelly Lake for decades, starting with their first cottage in 1948. That cottage saw six others built into a resort, “Wally’s Sunset Cottages”—my uncle. From way back then, my dad started with a 24′ travel trailer near by. Dad helped build and maintain the cottages, and I started coming up as a baby.
Back in the ’60s, Uncle Wally built his retirement home where he retired in the 70s, I believe. Since his passing; his children continue to manage the resort, which is down to three, after four cottages were removed and three remaining as rentals.
Wonderful memories of Uncle Wally Ostrenga! He was kind and generous, often with a prank or a joke! Thanks for sharing, cuz!
